76% of Victims Paid Ransom to Cybercriminals
76 proc. of victims of ransomware attacks have paid the ransom to recover their data, according to a report by Veeam cited by Atlas VPN. This statistic raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of paying off cybercriminals.
Despite the payment, 24 proc. of companies did not regain access to their files. This highlights the risks associated with negotiating with hackers.
On a positive note, 19 proc. of firms managed to retrieve their data without giving in to ransom demands. Notably, 72 proc. of organizations that paid the ransom utilized some form of insurance to cover the costs.
The study also revealed that 73 proc. of entrepreneurs experienced two or more ransomware attacks in the past year, emphasizing the persistent threat posed by cybercrime.
